She’d seen it a hundred times before. Every time she tried to run the old simulation—the one that reconstructed the last five minutes of her father’s life before the accident—the system choked. Missing executable. Corrupted legacy code. No one had used DirectX 10 in years. The world had moved on to neural rendering and quantum framebuffers.

When she ran the sim again, the error vanished. The screen glowed. She copied it by hand
