The film follows the story of Joseph "Joe" Condor (played by Robert Redford), a researcher for the CIA who works in their "Western Hemisphere" department. Joe's entire office is massacred by unknown assailants, and he is the sole survivor. With the help of his girlfriend Kathy (played by Faye Dunaway), Joe goes on the run to stay alive and uncover the truth behind the brutal killing of his colleagues.
