In her room, under the blanket, she pressed play. A voice crackled through: not Kishore, but a young girl—off-key, bold, and laughing.
“Mumma, the sun is out ,” Ritu groaned.
“Beta, go get the milk,” her mother, Neerja, called from the kitchen, the clang of pressure cookers underscoring her words.
